Thursday 10 September 2020 was R U OK Day.
This is our national day of action when we remind ourselves that every day is the day to ask, “Are you OK?” if someone in your world is struggling with life’s ups and downs. In 2020, this question to connect with others is more relevant than ever.
We acknowledged this day at Santa Sophia by asking staff to dress in something yellow (the official colour for R U OK Day) and encouraged all students to wear yellow accessories with their normal school uniform.
In Primary, the students learnt about what being a good friend means. Students explored what a positive friendship is and how to be a good friend. The afternoon finished with fun and games with their teachers as well as a Zooper Dooper ice block treat for each child.
In Secondary, our regular Session 3 class was replaced by an R U OK? session to teach students how to approach a friend who they think might be struggling and how to help them connect with an adult to get more support. The theme for R U OK Day 2020 was "There's more to say after R U OK" so students learnt about how to keep the conversation going after that initial question. We also had teachers and students connecting over recess and lunch by playing games and interacting positively with each other in a fun way. Students also received Zooper Dooper ice blocks each as a treat.
