Educating for the future
The learning journey at Santa Sophia honours the developmental stages in a student’s life. Based on leading educational research and the best of today’s technologies, we prepare students for the future by teaching them how to think critically and creatively, how to communicate effectively and how to lead and work both independently and collaboratively.
Educating for the future
The primary years lay the foundations for life-long learning.
Kindergarten to Year 4 provides each child with the social and academic skills needed to interact and explore the world as confident and effective learners.
Inquiry Pedagogy:
Play based Inquiry (Kindergarten) and Guided Inquiry (Year 1-4)
Inspiring students to explore, innovate and thrive.
Students in the foundation years, while learning core concepts of literacy and numeracy, also learn how to learn. They develop the dispositions and behaviours required to express ideas and respond to others.
The delivery of collaborative lessons in purpose built learning spaces provides a dynamic, engaging learning environment. The learning environment, then, is designed for collaborative work working at tables.
The School of Curiosity provides each child with the social and academic skills needed to interact and explore the world as confident and effective learners.
Play based inquiry is a method of instruction that not only targets the foundational knowledge and skills of literacy and numeracy, but also creates a sense of wonder and curiosity through an inquiry play based learning approach.
Learning in the School of Curiosity is experiential with an emphasis placed on child-initiated, spontaneous and open-ended creative play experiences and artistic expression.
Guided inquiry encourages students to take more ownership of their learning, whilst guiding students to acquire foundational knowledge and skills across all subject areas. Critical thinking skills are also honed as each learner is guided to become his or her best.
The quest for knowledge underpins the School of Curiosity program. As students interact and explore the world, our program develops each student’s comprehension of the world around them, and their attitudes and interests in relation to this.
