Educating for the future
The learning journey at Santa Sophia honours the developmental stages in a student’s life. Based on leading educational research and the best of today’s technologies, we prepare students for the future by teaching them how to think critically and creatively, how to communicate effectively and how to lead and work both independently and collaboratively.
Educating for the future
Students at this stage of development are primed to make connections of concepts, knowledge and skills across different subject areas.
Inquiry Pedagogy:
Rigorous Learning Focused Projects
Our students are proof that school can be fun, stimulating and a growing experience.
Our learning spaces are places of curiosity, friendship, order, respect and hard work. While there is major focus on each student acquiring a sound knowledge of literacy and numeracy skills, students also learn contemporary IT skills, develop their knowledge of the arts and grow in the Catholic faith.
As students progress through middle school they are talking, visualising, articulating ideas and sharing new learnings in all sorts of creative ways.
The emphasis is on feedback. The learning environments for these years are designed for the students to visualise their thinking, share their learning and for others to give their feedback in a way where they can talk, move and stand up.
Students are connected to the real world, prepared for success as lifelong learners learning projects, faith formation, provisioning of schools, stewardship of resources and system accountability.
Having grown and matured through the initial years of adolescence, students at these ages are beginning to settle down. In response to this, students engage in a personalised learning program that seeks genuine dialogue to challenge students to raise their own questions, create their own ideas, seek solutions to real world challenges and explore their interests and passions.
Project Based learning (PBL) engages students with real world problem-solving. Students develop deep content knowledge as well as critical thinking, creativity and communication skills. Every day, students are strengthening their academic mindset with the skills they need to take responsibility for their own learning journey.
